Brazil stocks lower at close of trade; Bovespa down 1.22%

Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Industrials , Electric Power and Public Utilities sectors led shares lower.

At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa declined 1.22%.

The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Cogna Educacao SA (BVMF: COGN3 ), which rose 8.81% or 0.23 points to trade at 2.84 at the close. Meanwhile, Azzas 2154 SA (BVMF: AZZA3 ) added 3.08% or 0.98 points to end at 32.76 and YDUQS Participacoes SA (BVMF: YDUQ3 ) was up 2.13% or 0.32 points to 15.31 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Magazine Luiza SA (BVMF: MGLU3 ), which fell 5.04% or 0.47 points to trade at 8.86 at the close. BRF SA (BVMF: BRFS3 ) declined 4.54% or 1.02 points to end at 21.44 and Raizen SA Preferred (BVMF: RAIZ4 ) was down 4.32% or 0.08 points to 1.77.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the B3 Stock Exchange by 534 to 432 and 57 ended unchanged.

Shares in Cogna Educacao SA (BVMF: COGN3 ) rose to 52-week highs; up 8.81% or 0.23 to 2.84.

The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility , which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was down 7.34% to 29.05.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 2.96% or 96.04 to $3,339.34 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.94% or 1.13 to hit $57.16 a barrel, while the July US coffee C contract rose 0.45% or 1.75 to trade at $387.15 .

USD/BRL was up 0.57% to 5.69, while EUR/BRL rose 0.69% to 6.43.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.21% at 99.63.
