Canada stocks higher at close of trade; S&P/TSX Composite up 0.46%

Investing.com – Canada stocks were higher after the close on Tuesday, as gains in the IT , Utilities and Energy sectors led shares higher.

At the close in Toronto, the S&P/TSX Composite added 0.46%.

The best performers of the session on the S&P/TSX Composite were Ivanhoe Mines Ltd. (TSX: IVN ), which rose 7.69% or 0.94 points to trade at 13.16 at the close. Meanwhile, Trisura Group Ltd (TSX: TSU ) added 6.31% or 2.11 points to end at 35.54 and BRP Inc (TSX: DOO ) was up 5.33% or 2.59 points to 51.18 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Endeavour Silver Corp. (TSX: EDR ), which fell 12.21% or 0.75 points to trade at 5.39 at the close. Rogers Communications Inc (TSX: RCIb ) declined 5.88% or 2.26 points to end at 36.17 and Bausch Health Companies Inc (TSX: BHC ) was down 4.07% or 0.38 points to 8.95.

Rising stocks outnumbered declining ones on the Toronto Stock Exchange by 496 to 405 and 88 ended unchanged.

Shares in Rogers Communications Inc (TSX: RCIb ) fell to 5-year lows; losing 5.88% or 2.26 to 36.17.

The S&P/TSX 60 VIX , which measures the implied volatility of S&P/TSX Composite options, was down 0.35% to 14.34.

Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.09% or 2.82 to $3,153.12 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.34% or 0.24 to hit $71.24 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.37% or 0.28 to trade at $74.49 a barrel.

CAD/USD was unchanged 0.55% to 0.70, while CAD/EUR rose 0.78% to 0.65.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 103.92.
